The Scheppach Plana 3.1c jointer planer is the smallest machine in the Plana series. It is the successor of the Plana 3.0c. It has the basic functionality and design of higher-end machines like Hammer, but lacks the refinement and build quality.
It has cast iron tables and a relatively fast feed rate of 8m/min, which can’t be adjusted. There is also a mortising table option available, which can be mounted on the side. The larger version of this machine is the Plana 4.1c.
The cast iron tables can swing upwards when switching to thickness planing mode, and are held in place by an automatic spring to prevent them falling down accidentally.
There are many off-brand versions of this machine that are often cheaper, but may lack some functionality (like the springs to secure the tables) and have lower build quality. Most likely they are all made in the same Chinese factory.
