The Scheppach Plana 4.1c jointer planer is the middle one of the current Plana series, being larger than the Plana 3.1c and smaller than the Plana 6.1c ( a 5.1c version does not exist). It also has the possibility to add an optional mortising table.
It has cast iron tables. These tables can swing upwards when switching to thickness planing mode, and are held in place by an automatic spring to prevent them falling down accidentally.
It is the successor of the older Plana 4.0c. In comparison to its smaller brother, the 3.1c, it is not just bigger, but it also has 4 blades instead of 3, creating better jointing and planing results.
There are many off-brand versions of this machine that are often cheaper, but may lack some functionality (like the springs to secure the tables) and have lower build quality. Most likely they are all made in the same Chinese factory.
