The SCM Minimax FS 41e (elite) is fourth machine in SCM’s jointer planer series. It is similar to the Minimax FS 41 Classic, but slightly larger and has more functions and possible upgrades.

While the FS 41 Classic is also aimed at serious hobbyists, the Elite is purely for professional workshops. It has longer jointer and planer tables and the bigger cutterblock can take off more shavings in one pass. It has two feed rates (6 and 12m/min) instead of just one, a separate motor for the feed rollers, and convenient folding handwheels.

Possible upgrades include a numerical display to show exactly the height of the planer table, and a special fence for thin workpieces. It does lack electronic height adjustment, which is available on the FS 30 Elite S.

The cutterblock can be upgraded to the Tersa system, which allows you to change and set new knives very quickly. Alternatively you can opt for SCM’s Xylent spiral cutterblock. The advantages of spiral cutters are the cheaper replacement if you damage one blade, lower sound levels, and longer life due to their four sharp sides.

    • Hello Michael.
Changing from jointer to planer and viceversa is very easy… You don’t have to remove anything… The only reccomendation to preserve the guard is to open the jointer infeed table first (obviously)…
Feel free to contact SCM directly to let you show how does it work and for any further information you may need… They will be happy to help you.

  2. Would you explain the mobility on this machine? How big is the base, width and length? I will need to roll this around in my shop for room and would like to know if the standard wheel set up will work or will I have to make a cart under it. Thank You.

    • Hi Jim, you would be best off contacting SCM directly. They’ll likely have the exact measurements of the base.

  3. I have a FS-03 FS41 EliteS. It came with the “American” style guard for the jointer. I’d like to switch to the “European” style, where can I purchase this.
