The Jet JJP-8BT is an 8″ inch benchtop jointer planer, and the smallest jointer planer combo sold by Jet. It is very similar to several other benchtop combo machines sold by other brands. It is sometimes also sold as the JET B3NCH 8″ Jointer Planer.
The JJP-8BT has a cutterhead that only uses two blades. This is less than bigger machines and will result in a less smooth planing results. The blades are standard HSS steel, but seem to have a specific shape to attach them, which means you might not be able to fit blades from other brands. Official replacement knives can be found on Amazon.
One of the biggest issues with the JJP-8BT (and similar Chinese benchtop jointer planers) is that they cannot be adjusted very well. So if you get unlucky and your jointer tables are out of parallel, it will be very tricky to get everything lined up straight and square. That’s why some people consider machines in this price range kind of a lottery.
Most larger machines use induction motors, but for cheaper ones manufacturers often go universal ones, like is the case with the JJP-8BT. These kinds of motors are much louder, even though they are not that powerful.
Not a very good machine, but if you get one that has straight tables, you can actually get good planing results with it.
