The Rikon 25-010 is a 10-inch lightweight jointer planer combo, modelled after the classic design of the Metabo HC260. It is practically identical to the Record Power PT260, including the optional wheel base.
To switch from jointer to planer mode, you have to remove the fence and outfeed table and flip up the dust hood. This takes only about one minute, but it is less convenient and reliable than on machines with tables that fold up.
One of the unique features about Rikon’s version of this machine is that they offer a helical head upgrade. For about $500 more, you can get the 25-010h, which is the same machine but with a spiral cutterhead instead.
The standard version uses three double sided, non-resharpenable HSS knives. The advantage of these is that they can be switched quite easily, and you only need to set their position once.
In terms of power, the Rikon 25-010 is not that impressive with only 1.5 HP, but it should still be sufficient for 90% of your work. Difficult hardwoods may require you to take very thin passes.
Replacement Blades: If your blades get dull, you can find new replacement knives at Amazon, or on eBay.
Decent machine based on a classic, proven design. Currently the only good jointer planer available around $1000.
