The Scheppach HM1 jointer planer is a sturdy combination machine with multiple accessories. It was succeeded by the Scheppach HM2 Kombi, which is very similar, and the HM0 jointer planer which is the same as the HM2, but without any extensions.

The HM1 and HM2 are sturdy machines that will last a long time, and can therefore be found often on the second-hand market. They are made of mostly sheet metal (including the tables), making them less accurate and straight. It also makes them more susceptible to rust.

Many extensions

What they lack in accuracy and refinement, they make up for in price and the large number of extensions. Among the possible extensions are a table sawspindle moulder, mortising table, belt sander and disc sander, grinding wheel and even a lathe and band saw. Most of these are interchangeable between the HM 1 and HM 2.

Despite their quality issues, they are often the first machine of choice for beginning woodworking enthusiasts and a decent machine to start learning how to operate a jointer planer.

Replacement Blades: If you’re looking for new blades for your Scheppach HM1, there are a few places still selling them.

For example, here on Amazon GermanyAmazon UK, or here on eBay (slightly cheaper).

Machine Atlas Verdict

Robust but unrefined machine, good first machine for new woodworkers.

    • According to this manual, the product number of the HM1 blades is 61004134. If you google that you’ll find some shops selling spares. The size seems to be 260 x 18 x 3mm.

    • Hi Mike, are you looking for a new drive belt? Or one of the gears?

A new drive belt for the thickness feed can be found here: https://buchhaupt.de/sc-hm1

It’s a German site, but it’s the best one for belts for old machines. They deliver all over Europe.

  3. Thanks allot Rob .am I still able to find extensions to it?the one I bought is single phase and has 2 pulleys.the vbelt is on the small motor pulley and its previous owner told me that he always used it in this way.

    • Hi Marcus, the extensions can still be found on the second-hand market quite a bit (but it will depend on what country you are in).

I’m not sure about the pulleys, because I haven’t owned this machine myself. But I think it might have one pulley for planing/jointing and one pulley for extensions (like the table saw).
