The JET JJ-6CSDX Jointer is JET’s smallest and most affordable jointer. It features quick-change straight blades, a rabbeting ledge, and front-facing handwheels to raise and lower the infeed and outfeed table.
JET also offers the JJ-6HHDX jointer, which is practically identical except for the fact that it has a helical cutterhead. Both machines use a classic wedge-bed dovetail system over which the tables slide up and down.
The JJ-6CSDX is a compact machine with slim, but relatively long cast iron tables. Its 1HP motor is somewhat limited, but given the maximum jointing width of only 6 inches, it should be powerful enough. The small width capacity can be a limited factor when jointing board faces, and may require you to rip boards, joint them, and then glue them back together.
The JJ-6CSDX has a knife system that only requires you to set it up once, after which the knives will automatically stay in the right position when you replace them. Each blade has two sharp edges and cannot be resharpened.
- Limited jointing width may cause problems when dealing with wide boards
- Not very powerful
- Handwheels to easily lower and raise the tables
- Quick change knife system means less time spent on setting up knives
- Cast iron tables
- Long tables (longer than earlier JET models)
