The JET JJP-12 (or its European name JPT 310) is a jointer planer combo made for serious hobbyists. It is one of the most affordable machines with a spiral cutterhead available, making it an attractive entry-level machine with excellent planing results.
The JET JPT 260 is its very similar, but slightly smaller brother, which seems to be no longer available in North America and also less prevalent (but still available) in Europe. The same goes for the larger version, the JET JPT 410.
The machine has a European-style blade guard, which can be raised/lowered with a knob. The infeed roller is made of metal, but the outfeed roller has a rubber coating, which may degrade in quality over time.
The version with spiral cutters (called JJP-12HH Helical Head) has many separate blades which can be turned 90 degrees when they get dull. One thing that makes this machine special is that the blades are positioned under a slight angle, which is supposed to give better planing results.
The spiral cutter version als has a slightly lower feed rate (a little over half) than the one with the normal blades. The machine comes both in a 230V and 400V version.
Two direct competitors that also offer spiral cutters are the Hammer A3 31 and the SCM Minimax FS 30 Genius, although these are both slightly more expensive.
Replacement Blades: You can find replacement standard blades on Amazon. An aftermarket Shelix cutterhead can be purchased here or on eBay.
One of the most affordable jointer planer combos with a helical head. Excellent entry-level option.
