The Scheppach HMS 3200 jointer planer is a sturdy machine from the HMS series. It is not to be confused with the HMC 3200, which is quite similar but has many extensions available, whereas the HMS 3200 only has jointing and planing functions. It was later succeeded by the HMS 3200 ci.
It is the larger brother of the HMS 260, and beside the larger size, its main improvement is that the jointing tables swing upwards and don’t have to be removed. This means you switching from jointing to planing mode takes less time, and your table settings will remain more accurate.
The biggest downside of this machine are the sheet metal tables, which are much more prone to bending and dents, as well as rust, than cast metal or aluminium tables. The larger version, the HMS 4000 does actually have cast aluminium tables, making it a significant upgrade.
Another improvement over the HMS 260 is the fact that the stand is integrated, which, combined with its increased weight, makes the HMC 3200 a much more stable and sturdy machine.
