The Kity 636 Jointer Planer is the larger version of the Kity 635. It is nearly identical in every way, except for size. The 636 is the recommended version, because 260mm jointing and planing width is sufficient for most home woodworkers, whereas with 200mm you’ll quickly run into the machine’s limitations.

One advantage of the Kity 636 and 635 is the way the jointing table swings upwards when you want to switch to thickness planing mode. This method means you don’t risk losing your settings due to small changes, like you do when you need to completely remove the table.

Replacement Blades: If your blades are damaged or missing, you can still buy new ones today. You can get them here in Germany, or here in the UK.

  1. I’ve had a 2nd hand 636 for years which I bought for a one-off thicknessing job I had on, it was never used for surfacing.
I now need to set it up for edge planing but can’t find any resources on setting the outfeed, the blades are way below that of the outfeed table. Do I now readjust the blades in the block to match the table height, I was sure there was adjustment of the outfeed via the knob on the side to do this but this it seems is solid.
    Many thanks in advance

    • Hi Andy, on most planer thicknessers of this type you can only adjust the height of the infeed table, not the outfeed table. The outfeed table usually can be adjusted slightly in angle, but that’s really minimal.

You’ll indeed have to adjust the blades to the outfeed table. This video might be helpful.

      Hope that helps!

    • Hi Graham, do you mean you cannot lower or raise the infeed table, or do you mean you cannot flip both tables up anymore?

  3. Does anyone know where I can get some information on Kity spindle moulders? I recently acquired 627 and 628 models. Cheers

  4. Good day I have the Kity 636, when I am using the thickness plainer the table keeps slowly moving down. So after each piece of wood I put through I have to adjust it to the thickness I wanted. Can someone help me to fix this please 🙏

  5. I just purchased a used Kity 636 combination jointer/planer. I am missing some parts and would like to know if there is any place I can purchase them. Thanks very much

    • Hi Johnny, there is one website in France that stills (some) parts for old Kity machines, called Probois Machineoutils. That would probably be your best bet for finding Kity parts. They do ship internationally I think.

      Hope that helps!

  6. Hi guys I am.looking for the size belt that drives the rollers please

    L
    Louis Bester
    • Hi Louis, I found this UK company selling the drive belt. According to them it’s 710 mm, but there may have been different version. You might be best off measuring the broken belt of your own machine (if you still have it) to double check.

      Hope that helps!

  9. Hi Rob, Can you tell me if its possible to buy a replacement motor for a 636 just like the old one with the switch on the top.

    B
    BRIAN BUTCHER
    • Hi Brian, since the motor of the 636 is separate from the machine itself, you can replace it with any appropriate electromotor. This youtube video shows a nice setup.

  10. Hi, can you tell me the correct speed of the cutter block on the 636 planner please. Im fitting a new motor and the block would be turning at about 8,000 rpm and i think it may be too fast. could you help please.

    B
    BRIAN BUTCHER
    • Hi Brian,

I haven’t been able to find the official specs. But the later version, 3636, and a comparable machine like the Inca Automatic J/P both run on 6000 RPM. So 8000 definitely seems a little fast.

      Hope that helps!
