The Powermatic 60HH is an 8-inch jointer with helical head cutters. It is nearly identical to the Powermatic 60C, which only has standard blades.
Helical head cutters are quieter, last longer, and are easier to replace. Since the 60C doesn’t even have quick-set blades, but just traditional straight blades, the upgrade to the 60HH is very attractive. It will save you a lot of effort replacing blades, and may potentially be cheaper in the long run as well.
It is the larger brother (8 vs 6 inches) of the Powermatic 54HH, with a few upgrades. The fence has a handwheel for setting the angle, which makes it very precise and easier to use. The infeed table has a lever and a knob, which allows for quick changing and fine tuning of the table height.
The body of the machine is mounted on a classic wedge-bed dovetail base on which both the infeed and outfeed table slide up and down. Powermatic also offers two 8-inch jointers with a parallelogram design. Parallelogram jointers are better if you regularly change the height of the infeed and outfeed tables.
The 60HH cannot be used for rabbeting, unlike the 60C, which means you’re stuck with the standard blades version if making rabbets on the jointer is an essential function for you.
Replacement Carbide Inserts: It can be a bit tricky to find replacement carbide cutters for the 60HH, but we managed to find them on Amazon, and eBay. Amazon seems to sell them a lot cheaper for some reason.
