The Record Power PT260 is a solid jointer-planer combination, which is inspired heavily by the original design of the Elektra Beckum HC260.

This machine is made in China, which makes some people skeptical about the quality levels, but according to Record Power, they have a special quality-control unit in the United Kingdom. This means their machines are tested more rigorously than Chinese clones coming straight from the factory.

Foldable Wheel Base

One advantage of the PT260 is that it comes with a foldable wheel base, making it much easier to move around. For many other machines this has to be bought separately, making the PT260 even better value for money.

The Record Power PT260 is also similar to the Metabo HC260, which can also still be bought new. The Metabo is about €300 more expensive and lacks the nice foldable wheel base found on the PT260.

Replacement Blades: If your blades are damaged or missing, you can buy replacements either from Amazon UK, or from Record Power directly.

Late 2020: Discontinued

According to Record Power’s website, the PT260 has been discontinued (late 2020). It is unclear whether they will offer a new version.

Machine Atlas Verdict

The most affordable 'good' jointer planer available in Europe. Solid choice for a first jointer planer.

  1. Why is it so hard to buy a 10″ planer thicknesser? Loads of sites with machines but NO ONE has any stock to sell me one!
And so many manufacturer sites with distributors listed that don’t offer the products.

    • Hi Dave, I’ve checked and it seems that Record Power has discontinued the PT260 (according to their website).

I think there are still some companies selling it, but that’s probably their last stock.

A good alternative would be the Metabo HC260, although it is slightly more expensive.

  2. i have just purchased a second hand Record Power PT260 which seems to be in quite good condition This is my first experience with a P/T so not totally sure of the workings
I have managed to plane but am having trouble thicknessing. The timber seems to be getting stuck on the rollers and if I lower the plate the wood doesnt engage with the blade
I’ve noticed the spring bolts that look to be under each roller but I’m reluctant to play with these in case I end up doing more harm than good
    Any advice would be appreciated

    • Hi Ray, congrats on the purchase, it’s a nice machine. Regarding the wood getting stuck when thicknessing, the first thing I would do is to clean the thicknessing table, and then adding a lubricant. Paste wax, paraffin or candle wax will all do the trick. Even on €5000 machines wood can get stuck if the table is not clean and waxed.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, the rollers could indeed be the problem. If you want to adjust them, make sure to adjust them equally (e.g. by counting the number of turns when loosening) or your boards will come out slightly skewed.

      Hope that helps!

  3. Where can I get a set springs that go under the planer blades

  4. Hi there. I have one of these machines and are looking for a replacement belt for the feed rollers. Does anyone know the size of belt, as the one currently fitted is so stretched it is hanging loose. This is the flat belt as apposed to the ribbed belt used on the motor.

    Many thanks.

  5. Is there an electrical drawing available for this machine that includes the Selector Switch, PCB, and stop/start unit?
