SCM Minimax C 30 Genius

The SCM Minimax C 30g (Genius) is the second machine in SCM’s series of five-function combo machines. It is nearly identical to the Minimax C 26 Genius, except for the jointer/planer being slightly wider and longer. It is smaller and less powerful than its larger brother, the Minimax Lab 300 Plus.

The Minimax C 30 Genius is a very compact machine aimed at hobbyist woodworkers. It is relatively affordable and one of the cheapest combo machines available from one a reputable manufacturer. Sold in Germany under the Holzkraft brand.

The cutterhead of the jointer and planer can be upgraded to a Tersa-version, as well as a spiral cutter version. Tersa blades are straight blades, but once set up they can be changed very quickly. Spiral cutters last much longer, because they can be used on four sides, and tend to be quieter.

One downside is that there is only one fence for both the jointer and saw. It is more similar to the fence found on Minimax planers than on their table saws. This is less than ideal, because the Minimax table saw fence is excellent, and because you will have to check that the fence is square quite every time you switch operations.
