The SCM Minimax C 26g (genius) is the entry-level machine from SCM’s combo machine series. It is a highly compact machine aimed at hobbyists. It is the smaller brother of the C 30 Genius, which is mostly the same machine, except for a larger jointer planer element. Sold in Germany under the Holzkraft brand.
The standard version of this machine misses the outrigger table, but it can be added if needed. Its motor can be upgraded slightly, but remains somewhat limited in terms of power.
One downside is that there is only one fence for both the jointer and saw. It is more similar to the fence found on Minimax planers than on their table saws. This is less than ideal, because the Minimax table saw fence is excellent, and because you will have to check that the fence is square quite every time you switch operations.
The cutterhead of the jointer and planer can be upgraded to a Tersa-version, as well as a spiral cutter version. Tersa blades are straight blades, but once set up they can be changed very quickly. Spiral cutters last much longer, because they can be used on four sides, and tend to be quieter.

I have an older minimax c26 and find that the saw fence is a bit unreliable. Can this be upgraded to something better?
